What was the last version of Kleopatra with Aero icons?

Kleopatra formerly had beautiful coloured icons, which have been rather boring and unidentifiable B&W glyphs for the past few years that I have been using it.

I was wondering if anyone knew what was the version number for the version of Kleopatra in the screenshot? What was the last version that had these nice colourful icons?

For reference, this is what Kleopatra v4.2.0 looks like (Win10 v1709 with glass8.eu aero glass plugin):

(and this is what Kleopatra v4.3.0 looks like)

Older versions of Kleopatra are downloadable here; from reading through the release notes, it looks like Kleopatra v2.3.4 might be the version I’m looking for with the old beautiful icons (v3.0.0 is listed as having a new icon theme).

I’m wondering if there’s a way I can port the old icons over to newer versions of Kleopatra. Does anyone know where the icon files are stored? Kleopatra v4.2.0 is built with Qt v5.15.9.0. Notably, this is not WinXP compatible, and the changelog does not mention which is the last version compatible with old Windows, which is rather inconvenient.

Hi @Darthagnon,

as Kleopatra is a product from KDE, a few resources came from their repositories originally.

https://files.gpg4win.org/ has the source file packages, but the build process is traditionally rather involved. (The reason is that we wanted to automate it fully with Free Software, so it was a cross compilation from a Debian based system, so it is less common than many build processes.)

Your first steps would be to look for the icons in the most recent source code and build scripts. And then locate the icons in the old source code. And build the new Kleopatra at all. It is probably quite a technical challenge depending on your software engineering background. A few peope on gnupg-devel@ or the KDE mailinglist may help you, so you can start and ask.

Best Regards,
Bernhard
