You may know that RNP is used in Thunderbird to encrypt emails. A few days ago RNP published an article where they state that they are supporting LibrePGP - an updated version of OpenPGP.
the problem with RNP is the support for openpgp cards see the yubico 5 and 5c NFC series. having generated Key ed25519 on the token RNP does not support access so emails cannot be encrypted with Thunderbird if you use secure tokens
Hi @tigernero79,
because of your post I did some research and found your issue on Github about this problem. Sadly, it doesn’t look like this will be solved soon.
this is ignorance of things. they pass from Deb packages forcing snap and break things. they introduce RNP and openpgp tokens don’t work anymore. is it Ignorance?
It is possible use gpg in Thunderbird for secret key operations only.
Therefore check out the following if you want to use Thunderbird in combination with your yubikey:
this is also a known issue, the thunderbird deb package handles external gnupgp correctly bypassing rnp for the private key and yubico works. BUT GUESS? the snap package they imposed broke this too. enabling this entry does not handle the call to gnupgp. is it stupidity or not when something works, imposing something new and ruining what was working?
