Kleopatra Not Launching on Windows

Hi all,

You’ll have to forgive my limited knowledge of computer programs and such.
I have been successfully using Kleopatra for the last few years and today when I started my device it had restarted, probably due to a windows update.

I tried launching Kleopatra but literally nothing happens. I tried re-downloading the program and it wont even launch from the install wizard/with the “launch” box checked off.

I saw another thread where the user had windows profile in other language but that is not the case here.

Please let me know if there are any common issues/fixes, much appreciated

Which version of Gpg4win are you on? And is this Windows 10 or 11? That might help narrow it down.

Some AV software can suddenly flag or quarantine parts of Gpg4win. Could you check your AV quarantine for anything suspicious?

I am on windows 11.

I don’t think I have any external AV software installed/active either.

Did you try to reinstall Gpg4win with admin privilege? (don’t forget to backup your keys)

Another thing you could try is to do something (e.g. encrypt a file) on the command line if you know how to use it. Then you can check if there are error messages that might explain the behavior.

Which version of Gpg4win are you using?

What you can try in any case is to delete the socket files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\gnupg (they all start with “S.”)
