Kleopatra - Clipboard option decrypt/verify always greyed out

Have been following this tutorial to the letter

https://www.deepdotweb.com/2015/02/21/pgp-tutorial-for-windows-kleopatra-gpg4win/

However the Clipboard option decrypt/verify is always greyed out (never available to me).

I have tried copying the entire text string into notepad (windows 10 user), it just won’t ever let me decrypt.

please help. see attachment.

I’m using Windows Vista and I get the same result when I try to verify a detached signature from the clipboard. It works when I try to verify a ‘clearsigned’ signature. I think the reason is because Keopatra is looking for something in the clipboard itself to verify. In other words: it simply won’t work with a detached signature.

Here’s what you’ll need to do: First, make sure you have saved the note containing the signature (preferably in the same location as the file the signature belongs to). Then, click the ‘file’ menu in Kleopatra and select ‘decrypt/verify files’. Navigate to the location of the saved signature and select it. If the signed file has a different name than the signature, you’ll need to select it as well by clicking the file icon next to the ‘signed data’ field, otherwise Kleopatra should automatically detect it. Finally, hit the ‘Decrypt/Verify’ button.

To be clear, the clipboard ‘decrypt/verify’ feature will only work with a clearsigned message (or a gpg/pgp file which contains both the data and the signature). Here’s an example of what a clearsigned message looks like:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512

Hello world!

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----
Version: GnuPG v2

-----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

You would need to copy the entire message to the clipboard in order to verify it.

Hope that helps!
