Difference between 'Encrypt for Me' and 'Encrypt for Others'

I’m using Kleopatra software for my encryption needs. I noticed there are two functions: ‘Encrypt for Me’ and ‘Encrypt for Other’. Could someone explain the differences between these two options?

Hi @cangkuai,

when you encrypt a file for others their public keys are used to encrypt the file. Thus, only they are able to decrypt it with their secret keys. Unless you choose to also use the option “Encrypt for Me” (which means that you are using your public key to encrypt the file) you cannot decrypt the encrypted file.

Does that help your understanding?

Thanks for your reply. Can I understand that these two options are functionally equivalent and both use public keys to encrypt data?

Yes, functionally they do the same.
